Product Description
Stop Thomas in his tracks! Little engineers can turn Sir Topham's Hatt to activate the bumper and stop battery-powered trains. When Thomas gets another useful assignment, they can set him back into motion again with the push of a button.

Battery-operated Thomas features a working headlight, a reliable "4-wheel-drive" engine that keeps him rolling along for hours of fun and free-wheeling capabilities for non-battery play. Straight track pieces flip over to reveal a new road design for even more play options. Special traction rails give extra grip to battery-powered engines. 26-piece set includes one battery-powered, die-cast Thomas, an exclusive yellow caboose, 20 track pieces, a bridge, Sir Topham Hatt Track piece, a tree and a sign. Requires one "AA" battery (included).

5 out of 5 stars Neat toy   May 9, 2010

I gave this toy to my oldest granddaughter (age 4)at a group birthday party for three granddaughters. All the little girls were over playing with it. It's a good toy for short people and, if you buy the extra track, for taller people too.

3 out of 5 stars Good value   December 28, 2008

This set is a good value for the price considering a battery power train alone costs around $[...] to start. The track is of good quality although does not fit easily with our existing other wooden track (from Ikea- great quality). Thomas comes with a caboose and they derailed at each corner as the turns were too tight. We tried to supplement with other track to widen the curves but they did not fit together well. After my 2 year old fit a couple of other cars making it four long, it seemed to do well. I guess the weight slowed down Thomas enough and held it down during turns. My son loves to turn the switch for Sir Topham Hatt on and off. Overall a good track and great starter set for anyone looking to start with Thomas. Just a few bugs though.

5 out of 5 stars Smiles all over.   November 11, 2008

This was a gift for my godson for his birthday and even though we were not there to see his happy face we were told that he was very pleased with it and went around holding his train engines.
A very good present which will bring many years of fun.

1 out of 5 stars Junk!!! Do not buy go for Brio   September 4, 2008

Please note this review is coming from a manufacturing/quality engineer who knows what quality and true functionality means. I have never been so disappointed in my life. It took me less then 2 minutes of having the track together to make the decision to box it up and return it. Brio has done a much better job of integrating an electric engine to the wood rail train track systems. I would not waste your time with the Thomas Train battery powered cars for the wood rail system. This track was level and I even tried to adjust the track some but to no avail did it help with the issues listed here. I know what it takes to setup the track properly and the types of tires and method they used to align the car to the track does not hold it proper.

Pros:
Durable wood track.

Cons:
Price.
Battery powered engine falls off the track almost every lap.
Coal car does not stay connected on the up slope due to a design flaw.
No sounds. :-(
No reverse. :-(
No interactive points with the train track. :-(

If you've decided to buy Thomas brand track this is a nice starter set, but you should also invest in some expansion sets like the Freddie Exp Set, the Cross & Switch Exp Pk, Conductors Figure 8 Exp Pk, male & female Track adapter pks. For Thomas trains, I bought most of mine on ebay new.
