The most phenomenal recording in rock & roll history is thoroughly examined in Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon. The Floyd's 1973 masterpiece remained on bestseller charts for nearly 14 years, and its enduring importance is honored here by all four members of Pink Floyd and key personnel (engineer Alan Parsons, mixing supervisor Chris Thomas, sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, and others) who played essential roles in the landmark album's creation. Produced for the Classic Albums series that originally aired on VH-1, this thorough and thought-provoking study highlights a track-by-track dissection of the LP's master tapes (including the spoken-word passages that bookend the album), superbly interlaced with archival footage, early demo tapes, concert animations, and latter-day acoustic performances by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright to demonstrate each track's contribution to the final mix--a sonic exploration that extends to the illuminating bonus features. Informative interviews abound (including Rolling Stone senior editor David Fricke), and much-deserved credit is given to saxophonist Dick Parry, solo vocalist Clare Torry, and former Capitol Records chairman Bhaskar Menon, who fostered the album's U.S. commercial success. For Floyd fans, musicians, and studio technicians alike, this is a must-have addition to any DVD library. --Jeff Shannon

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING!   July 28, 2010
Anthony Ballo (Sandpoint, ID)
Even if you are not obsessed with this album, you may be after you realize the brilliance of what was recorded and put together. Love the studio breakdowns and the artist's insight into the foundational chords of these songs and their inspiration. This DVD is a must-see. Heck, I rented it (Netflix) and then bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Really entertaining and insightful   May 10, 2010
JCD (CHICAGO, IL)
Anyone that loves Pink Floyd and loves learning background of one of the greatest albums of all time will love this. Great interviews with all band members and moving performances as well. I would highly recommend!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing. Way better than you think it is.   May 1, 2010
Jason Zack (New York, NY USA)
I clicked this on Netflix yesterday just to see what it was and, like other reviewers, expected it to be nothing special (probably because of the "classic albums" moniker). In fact, it was an incredibly well-done documentary, with thoughtful contemporary interviews with each of the band members, plus Alan Parsons, Storm Thorgensen and others involved in the album. For musicians it is fascinating to hear them talk about how the tracks were developed and to see them, all these years later, reconstruct the music we've come to know so well. This is essential for any Floyd fan, but also highly recommended for anyone who appreciates the music creation process.

I SAW ANOTHER DOCUMENTARY ON CABLE A WHILE BACK ABOUT PINK FLOYD.IT WAS CALLED "WITCH ONE`S PINK?" YOU MIGHT WANT TO LOOK FOR THAT ONE ALSO FOR MORE INSIGHT ON THE BAND AND IT`S MEMBERS.

All grown up now and still in tune. Pink Floyd has returned from the dark side of the Moon and, boy, do they have some stories. And answers, faces and voices for old questions. Ask someone to get you this DVD for Xmas.
